What’s next?

Our future goals are in sync with our Past and Present. PYDS is not merely an Institution, it’s a movement that has brought about a learning revolution in the surrounding area. There was a time when we had to go door to door to find students who could be admitted to our Scheme. It has all changed now! We now choose the most deserving among the hundred applicants.

From just one friend, we now have a family of about 500 strong supporters. We remember educating children in cattle sheds. Thanks to the supports, we now have an exemplary school infrastructure. The Society grew and the performance over time is a testimony to its growth. We are satisfied with the learnings of the past and experiments of the present.

“The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are”
We believe we are a budding Harvard meant for the poorest and which is fee free.

The Society sights the following developments in the near future:

Increasing number of beneficiaries

The philosophy of the Society has always been doing the best. We do not do tiny bits with thousands, but we believe in giving intensive care and comprehensive learning to a selected few from among the poorest. We wish to target the upper reaches of this hilly state of Uttarakhand. The road that we have chosen leads to excellence.

We have invested in infrastructure and competent teachers.

To help us optimize these resources we took the bold step last year of commencing parallel sections in classes 6, 9 and 11 and added 75 children to the School’s strength. These two sections of 25 each will yield 25 in each of our classes at the 11th and the 12th levels. The strength of our School is currently 510. This would further increase to 535  in 2018-19.

Infrastructure

Our existing infrastructure is sufficient to manage the strength of 510. We need to build more classrooms to accommodate the new additions anticipated in the coming years.

A portion of an old building has already been demolished to accommodate the new structure and the construction has already begun.  The Society’s Administrative office is also planned to be set up on the first floor of this building.

STEM driven School

Making children Technology friendly and innovative has always been our desire although getting there has involved investments and people. In 2013 we experimented with establishing a e-learning laboratory. This is being optimally used now.

We are now planning to set up a Tinkering Laboratory. This is an idea of the Niti Aayog, Government of India. Its objective is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds; and inculcate skills such as design mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing etc. We do hope that our application for this purpose gets selected.
There are other initiatives planned to drive our School towards this goal.

Hostel Facilities for classes 6 to 12

The challenging home environment of many of our wards coupled with other problems like many people crowded in one single room, no peace to study, no electricity to read after dark etc results in poor performance of students in the critical years. The students thus remain mediocre.

We wish our students to perform extremely well. They would secure admission into prestigious institutions such as IITs. IIMs and other such Institutes of higher learning only if they receive proper round the clock guidance and do extremely well at School.

To make such care possible, our plan for the coming years is to house all children from Classes 6 to 12 in a hostel meant for thepurpose. These plans imply the acquisition of an additional piece of land in a nearby location where we can house these children, apart from housing the required number of mentors.
